Privacy policy

• We collect account details, recipes you create or save, cooks you follow, and basic device and usage data needed to run Platealo.
• Published recipes and your display name are visible to other cooks. Your email stays private.
• We do not sell your personal information.
• You can delete your account in the iOS/Android app (Your plate → Delete account) or in the web kitchen profile. You can also email hello@platealo.com.
• Platealo is not for children under 13.

Personal information you disclose to us. If you create an account we store your email address, display name, language preference, and optional profile photo. Recipes you publish include titles, descriptions, cuisine, cook time, servings, ingredients, steps, and photos or video. We also keep the dishes you save and the cooks you follow. You may sign in with email, Google, or Sign in with Apple on iOS.

Information automatically collected. When you use the Services we may collect log and diagnostic data (such as IP address, browser or app version, pages or screens viewed, and timestamps), device data (such as operating system and device type), and cookie or similar identifiers on the website.

Information from social logins. If you continue with Google or Sign in with Apple, we receive the name and email address the provider shares (Apple may give a private relay address such as user@privaterelay.appleid.com, and may send your name only the first time you sign in) so we can create or sign you into your Platealo account. We use that data only to operate your account. We do not collect app interactions for advertising without consent.

We do not ask for payment card numbers, precise GPS location, SMS access, or contacts. The phone app may ask for photo library or camera permission only when you add a recipe photo or profile picture.

We process personal information to operate Platealo and for the purposes below:

• Create and authenticate accounts, and keep you signed in.
• Publish, display, search, save, and follow recipes and cooks.
• Store media you upload and show it on recipes and profiles.
• Respond to support requests and send service notices, such as changes to these terms or this policy.
• Protect the Services, including preventing abuse and diagnosing outages.
• Understand usage so we can improve the product.
• Comply with law and enforce our Terms of Use.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we process personal information only when we have a valid legal basis:

• Contract: to provide the account and recipe features you request.
• Legitimate interests: to keep the Services secure, understand how they are used, and improve them, where those interests are not overridden by your rights.
• Consent: where we ask for it (for example, optional cookies or a marketing email). You may withdraw consent at any time.
• Legal obligation: when we must keep or disclose information to comply with law.

We share personal information only as needed to run Platealo:

• Service providers that host and operate the Services: Supabase (authentication, database, and file storage), Render (API), and Vercel (website and web kitchen). The website also uses Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights.
• Google, if you choose Google sign-in. Our use of information received from Google APIs complies with the Google API Services User Data Policy, including Limited Use requirements.
• Apple and Google when you download the app from the App Store or Google Play. Those stores process their own account and payment data under their policies.
• Professional advisers, regulators, or law enforcement when required by law or to protect rights, safety, and the Services.
• A buyer or successor if we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this policy.

Published recipes, your display name, and your public profile photo are visible to other people who use Platealo. Private account details such as your email are not shown on your public profile.

The website uses cookies and similar technologies that are needed to keep you signed in, remember your language, and measure basic traffic with Vercel Analytics. We do not use advertising cookies or sell data to ad networks. You can control cookies in your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may affect sign-in or language preference.

We keep account and profile data for as long as your account is active. Published recipes and media stay available while they remain on Platealo. Saved lists and follow relationships last until you remove them or delete your account. Server logs are kept only as long as needed for security and operations, then deleted or aggregated. If you delete your account in the app or web kitchen, we permanently remove your auth user, profile, authored recipes, saved list, and follows unless we must keep a copy for legal, security, or dispute-resolution reasons.

We use industry-standard measures such as HTTPS, access controls, and hosted infrastructure with their own security programs. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. You are responsible for keeping your password confidential.

Platealo is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, email hello@platealo.com and we will delete it.

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you.
• Correct inaccurate personal information.
• Delete your personal information or close your account.
• Export a copy of your data.
• Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
• Object to or restrict certain processing.
• Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

To close your account, use Delete account in the Platealo app (Your plate) or in the web kitchen profile. That flow permanently deletes your account in-app. For other privacy requests, email hello@platealo.com from the address on your Platealo account. We may need to verify your identity before we fulfill the request.

Residents of California and other U.S. states with consumer privacy laws may have additional rights, including to know the categories of personal information we collect, request deletion, obtain a copy of their data, and not be discriminated against for exercising those rights. We do not sell personal information or share it for targeted advertising as those terms are defined under California law. California residents may also request information about personal information disclosed to third parties for direct marketing under the “Shine the Light” law; we do not make those disclosures.

Categories we collect include identifiers (such as email and account ID), customer records (account profile), internet and device activity, and user content (recipes and media). We collect this information from you and automatically from your device, and we use it for the purposes in Section 2.

Some browsers offer a Do Not Track (DNT) setting. There is no common industry standard for responding to DNT, so the Services do not currently respond to DNT signals. You can still control cookies in your browser.

Platealo is operated from the United States. If you use the Services from another country, your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States and other countries where our providers operate. Those countries may have different data-protection laws than your own.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will change the effective date at the top of this page and, if the changes are material, provide additional notice through the Services or by email. Continued use of the Services after an update means you accept the revised policy.
